Artificial sweeteners have been getting a bad rap for many years. Why? My guess would be that it gives the media more ammo to scare the mostly clueless masses. The truth is artificial sweeteners are really not that bad for you.
Debunking old myths is getting to be a full-time job for Gone Liftin’. It is surprising how many people still are afraid of using artificial sweeteners.
So what are some artificial sweeteners? Well, there’s a bunch of them. There’s saccharin. Studies back in the day were linked to bladder cancer, but more updated studies have debunked that stigma.
Then we have aspartame, which is probably the most commonly used artifical sweetener for most peeps. Aspartame was being accused of causing brain tumors, based on lab rat studies. Of course, later, it was discovered that the amounts given to those rats would be the equivalent of humans consuming inordinant amounts.
Last, but certainly not least, is Stevia. Stevia is a natural sweetener. It comes from a plant. Stevia does not affect insulin and is as all natural as a sweetener can get. Is it sweet? Damn right it is!
There’s the artificial sweeteners for ya. Now then, what is it that made these studies say that these sweeteners cause cancer? Basically, they don’t. Well, not in the amounts that we consume them anyways.
